Thanks for the comment and your question! The differing level of accessibility across our two primary colors is something we considered. One thing that helped us determine the appropriate level of contrast was determining how widespread/flexible their use would be. For example,

Guava is used sparingly as a primary CTA on our external-facing website. In use, the button text is always at least 16px and of a bold-level weight. This allows it to meet Level AA—Large contrast levels and pass accessibility. Since we really want it to be used minimally our team was OK with having such tight use requirements.

Kale, on the other hand, is used throughout our external-facing website and product. For that reason, we wanted to meet a higher level of accessibility so we wouldn’t have to worry about it failing at different sizes or weights. By calibrating that color above 4.5 (Level AA), it allows much more flexible accessible use.
